China's Model City

Zhangjiagang is a small, very prosperous city on the south bank of the Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province. As a Special Economic Development Zone, the city welcomes more and more foreigners and investment every year. In Yangshe town, the largest and most prosperous area, everything you need is nearby, from nightclubs to restaurants to your house; all are a short ride away by bicycle, scooter or taxi.

Zhangjiagang offers something to suit everyone, with all aspects of Chinese society and culture on show. If you’re looking for traditional food, scenery and excursions, there’s plenty to see and do. If you want to witness China’s growth firsthand, Zhangjiagang is a living, breathing example. If you’re looking for a welcoming, clean and comfortable city in which to enjoy your China experience, then you certainly won’t be disappointed.

Why Zhangjiagang?

Zhangjiagang takes great pride in being a beautiful and clean city, and this can be seen in its numerous parks throughout the city. These parks are beautifully landscaped, with lakes, fountains, beaches and play areas where the locals & visitors alike laze around in summer. The city’s beauty makes it a perfect choice for someone who is looking to explore.

In 1993, Zhangjiagang was selected to be a unique model city for all of China. Visitors remark on the beauty, cleanliness and friendliness of Zhangjiagang relative to other Chinese cities. Up to 300,000 tourists visit Zhangjiagang every year to see what could be the future of urban life in China.

In 2008, Zhangjiagang got the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award for setting a new trend in integrated urban-rural development and management through an initiative by the city’s authorities to improve the quality of life for farmers and other residents in its hinterland.

Zhangjiagang is located along the Yangtze River. The land surrounding Zhangjiagang is extremely fertile, with large spans of rice paddies as far as the eye can see.
